The Power of the Senses: Prada FW21 Menswear Collection
Following the Prada FW21 menswear collection show, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons open to a conversation with students from around the world, where they discuss about the show and their artistic decisions.
The stage for the show is quite peculiar. There is no hint at a concrete and tangible place, but empty rooms with soft textiles on the walls and marble or wall-to-wall carpeting pavements. This environment leaves freedom of interpretation, where the narrative in the collection is created by the senses of the touch and the eye that project a subjective feeling and impression.
Of course social environment is fundamental, as fashion is deeply connected with people’s lives, but architecture in these terms helps create an abstract space in an indistinct time. Fashion and architecture thus cooperate together as a vehicle for communicating a story and deeper meanings.
Technology in this collection is present in the way of connecting with people.
Several juxtapositions take centre stage: long colourful and patterned johns in opposition to structured oversize coats; dark colours of pants and coats in opposition to bright yellow nylon backpacks and pouches sewn on gloves; the hardness of isolation and the freedom of dancing in between the show as a moment of disconnection with reality.
Such as in this case, fashion is a performance where we continuously stage countless identities in an open dialogue with art, daily life and personal expression.
The collection is more connected with human feelings where the focus is on tactility, freedom of expression and reality, where the art of creation is balanced with commercial values.F
